Cervical Spondylosis
The common age-related neck ailment known as cervical spondylosis is brought on by arthritis resulting from wear and tear on the neck's spinal joints. Over time the discs may naturally dry out and shrink which can result in bone spurs and other symptoms and indicators of osteoarthritis.
Overview
The seven small vertebrae in your neck are referred to as "cervical". The term "spondylosis" refers to disc degeneration between vertebrae. Cervical spondylosis usually starts at 40 years of age and deteriorates with time. It typically develops in men earlier than in women. Another name for cervical spondylosis is: arthritis in the neck osteoarthritis in the neck degenerative neck disc disease.
Causes
Age-related degenerative changes in the spine are the cause of cervical spondylosis. These alterations are common and happen to everyone. Almost 50% of adults in their middle age and older have worn disks that don't hurt. The following are additional variables that could raise your chance of developing cervical spondylosis and neck pain:
Genetics: a family history of spondylosis and neck pain
Smoking is unquestionably associated with more neck pain.
occupation: jobs requiring a lot of overhead labor and repetitive neck motion
Anxiety or depression
Prior cervical trauma or injury
Symptoms
Symptoms frequently appear gradually over time. However, they might begin or worsen suddenly. You might be able to move or the pain might be deep and unbearable.
The pain could be felt across your shoulder blades. In rare instances, it might spread to the fingers forearm, or upper arm following a position of standing or sitting during the evening, and when you laugh cough, or sneeze.
You might also experience weakness in specific muscles when you walk more than a few yards (meters) or bend your neck backward.
In other situations, you might experience difficulties raising your arm clumsiness with one hand difficulty squeezing, or other issues.
Additionally, you might be weak in some muscles.
Ayurvedic View
Greeva shoola -The condition in which greeva means the spine of the cervical region and shoola means pain is present, this is cervical spondylosis. Aggravated vata dosha takes sthana (settles) in greeva pradesha (cervical spine) and does dushti (vitiation) of asthi vaha srotas (bone and nearby bone supporting structures), which results in pain, restricted movement, and difficulty with function of cervical spine movements. Ayurveda way of approach is to bring dosha back to prakruta awastha (balanced state), reduce the symptoms, nourish the dhatus (affected bones and supporting structures of the cervical), and rehabilitate the affected part by ayurvedic panchakarma treatment.
