Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB)

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) also known as dysfunctional uterine bleeding is a disorder characterized by excessively abundant bleeding irregular menstrual periods or both. Although hormone abnormalities are the primary cause of these irregularities other illnesses can also cause symptoms that are comparable.

Description:

Unusual uterine bleeding can affect up to one-third of women during their lifetime; irregularities most frequently arise during menarche and perimenopause. A typical menstrual cycle lasts two to seven days with a blood loss of five to eighty milliliters and occurs every 24 to 38 days on average. Any deviation from these four factors indicates irregular uterine hemorrhage. The study of diseases: It is believed that between 3% and 30% of women in reproductive age experience abnormal uterine bleeding globally with a higher incidence around menarche and perimenopause. Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is the focus of many studies although the prevalence increases to 35% or more when irregular and intermenstrual bleeding are taken into account. Types: It is also possible to distinguish between acute and persistent abnormal uterine bleeding. Excessive bleeding caused by acute AUB needs to be treated right once to stop more blood loss. Menstrual bleeding abnormalities during the majority of the preceding six months are referred to as chronic AUB which can be superimposed upon or occur alone as acute AUB.

Cause:

Hormonal imbalances are the main cause of irregular menstruation and they most commonly arise around adolescence and menopause. Hormonal balance can be affected by a number of factors including as drugs birth control pills intrauterine devices (IUDs) fast weight gain or reduction and stress (both physical and emotional). Menorrhagia is another term for unusually excessive menstrual flow. Bleeding or spotting in between cycles and bleeding after sex are additional problems associated with dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Other disorders that frequently cause abnormal uterine bleeding are: Uterine fibroids which are tumors that are typically discovered growing on the uterine muscles; Uterine polyps which are small soft growths that occur inside the uterus and are also referred to as endometrial polyps. Most polyps in the uterus are not malignant. Diabetes a chronic insulin disorder Endometriosis is a disorder affecting the tissue lining the uterus in which the tissue grows outside the uterus Thyroid disease includes inflammation of the thyroid (subacute thyroiditis) Grave's disease, toxic adenomas and hyper- or hypothyroidism Specific Pharmaceuticals- Blood thinners Birth control tablets Treatment with hormone replacement Certain cancers: they occur when cancerous cells proliferate inside body organs.Cancer of the vagina, Endometrial malignancy, Sarcoma uterine, Cervical cancer, Cancer of the cervical spine

Symptom:

Too-long or too-short periods excessively heavy bleeding or bleeding with plenty of clots are all signs of dysfunctional uterine bleeding. The following are a few signs of irregular uterine bleeding: • Painful pressure or pain in the Pelvic region • More than 7 days of menstrual bleeding • Less than a two-day period of bleeding • Excessive menstrual flow • Spots or bleeding in between periods • Heavy or frequent clots during the menstrual cycle
