Pizzhichal
Ayurveda
A transformative therapy also known as Pizzhichal / Tailadhara is a symphony of oil pouring over the entire body followed by a soothing massage. Pizzhichal means 'squeezing', of medicated oil onto the patient's body from a piece of cloth periodically soaked in a vessel containing the oil. The patient is made to adopt seven standard positions such that every small area of the body is smeared with oil. The treatment is very useful in Rheumatism, Paralysis, Hemiplegia, Nerve disorders, and Sexual weakness.
Pizzhichal is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment that involves the application of warm herbal oil to the body. It is a popular therapy for stress relief, muscle relaxation, and detoxification.
How it works
Preparation: The therapist prepares a mixture of warm herbal oils, often including coconut oil, sesame oil, or mustard oil, infused with herbs like turmeric, ginger, or neem.
Application: The patient lies on a massage table, and the therapist gently pours the warm oil over their body. The oil is then massaged into the skin using long, rhythmic strokes.
Wrapping: The patient is then wrapped in a warm cloth or blanket to help absorb the oil and promote sweating.
Rest: The patient rests for some time, allowing the oil to penetrate the skin and detoxify the body.
Benefits of Pizzhichal
Stress relief: The warm oil massage and the relaxing atmosphere can help reduce stress and anxiety.
Muscle relaxation: Pizzhichal can help relieve muscle tension and stiffness.
Detoxification: The herbs in the oil can help remove toxins from the body through the skin.
Improved circulation: The massage can help improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Enhanced sleep: Pizzhichal can promote better sleep by relaxing the body and mind.
