Steam bath

A long-standing custom that has been practiced by numerous societies throughout history is heat bathing. A steam room is a heated space used for relaxation and the treatment of certain illnesses. A steam room is a common feature in Ayurveda and Naturopathic hospital.. When steam is pumped into a closed area by a generator filled with water, moisture is produced in the air, forming a steam chamber.

A steam room's interior temperature is typically between 100 and 110°F, with a high relative humidity.Using a steam room makes people feel more refreshed and at ease. Warm condensation removes toxins and dead skin cells from the body and also works as effectively and quickly as dry heat in muscle recovery. 



The heat and humidity benefits


Relax muscles:  After working out, a person's muscles will frequently feel sore. Delay in onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is the term for this pain. After exercise, it's critical to relax the muscles to facilitate a speedy and trouble-free recovery.  using moist heat right away after working out helps minimize soreness and maintain muscle mass. The heat relaxes the muscles and calms nerve endings.


Improve circulation: Moist heat, such as that delivered by a steam room, can increase circulation by dilation of small blood vessels, or capillaries. This facilitates the movement of blood and oxygen throughout the body.


Open pores: The heat in both saunas and steam rooms causes perspiration. Sweating helps to clean the outside skin by opening up the pores. Warm condensation can aid in the removal of dirt and dead skin, as well as the treatment of acne. But unlike a sauna, a steam chamber also aids in the removal of toxins that are trapped beneath the skin.


Relieves joint stiffness: As with a pre-exercise warm-up, using a steam room before to a workout will assist increase flexibility and loosen up the joints. Burns Calories: A person's heart rate rises when they are in a steam room. After working out, using a steam room can assist sustain a higher heart rate. Experts have discovered that the heat produced by the steam room and the perspiration it induces can stimulate the body and improve health when combined with an appropriate exercise regimen. Any weight loss following a steam room session is usually caused by water loss, which must be made up by drinking water afterward to prevent dehydration.



Types of steam baths


Traditional steam rooms: Typically have a temperature of around 110-120°F (43-49°C) and high humidity.


Turkish baths (hammams): Often feature marble slabs or heated platforms for lounging.


Infrared saunas: Use infrared heat, which penetrates deeper into the body than traditional saunas.



Contraindications


Steam rooms are not suitable for the following people due to the tremendous heat they generate:  

  • Pregnant women

  • Anyone suffering from heart disease

  • Individuals with extremely low or elevated blood pressure

  • Anyone on antibiotics who has epilepsy

  • Those who consume alcohol, stimulants, or tranquilizers


Important considerations


Hydration: It's essential to stay hydrated before, during, and after a steam bath.


Listen to your body: If you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unwell, exit the steam room immediately.


Wear slippers: Users need to be aware of any fungi and bacteria that might flourish in warm, humid conditions. In a steam room, always wear shoes.


Consult a doctor: If you have any underlying health conditions, consult with our doctor before using a steam bath.
