Sunbathing is a technique that aids in receiving enough sunlight, which further offers the body a number of health benefits.

Benefits of sunbathing

Vitamin D production: Sunlight helps the body produce vitamin D, essential for bone health, immune function, and mood regulation. In addition to strengthening bones and possibly preventing osteoporosis and arthritis, vitamin D aids in the body's absorption of calcium.

Mood enhancement: Exposure to sunlight can help regulate serotonin levels, a neurotransmitter linked to mood and happiness. After spending time in the light, people may experience fewer depressive symptoms. The hormone serotonin, which can improve mood and foster feelings of calm, is released by the brain in response to sunlight. Spending time in the sun is likely to improve mood even in the absence of depression.

Skin health: Moderate sun exposure can stimulate collagen production, leading to firmer and more youthful-looking skin.

Deep sleep: Get more rest. Your circadian rhythm can be regulated by sunbathing, and when the sun sets, your body will begin to consistently feel sleepy.

decreased depression.

Increased immunity: Heart disease, Muscular sclerosis, Autoimmune disorders, and cancer are among the illnesses that vitamin D helps the body fight off.

Prevents Premature labor : Reduced chance of premature labor. Vitamin D has protective properties.

Increased Metabolism: Sunlight increases the force of excretion, strengthens digestion, and ignites the digestive fire.

Duration of Sun Exposure

According to some doctors, you can sunbathe for up to 20 minutes every day without wearing sunscreen as long as you don't have any problems from regular sun exposure. It might be advisable to stick to 5 to 10 minutes to lower the danger of sunburn.

The time before 10 am and 4 pm is ideally recommended for sun bath. Also summers are best avoided.

Your skin's typical reaction to the sun, the air quality, and how near you reside to the equator will all affect this. Some UV light can be blocked by poor air quality. According to some studies, getting a lot of sun at once is more harmful than being exposed to it gradually over time.

Risks of excessive sun exposure

Sunburn: Overexposure can cause sunburn, a painful skin condition that can increase the risk of skin cancer.

Skin cancer: Excessive sun exposure over time can lead to skin cancer, including melanoma, the most dangerous type.

Premature aging: UV rays can damage the skin, leading to wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of premature aging.

Safe sunbathing practices

  • Use sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen 15 minutes before you go outside with an SPF of 30 or higher before going outside.

  • Drink sufficient water : If you're going to be in the sun for extended periods, drink water.

  • Limit sun exposure: Avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during peak hours (10 AM to 4 PM).

  • Seek shade: When possible, seek shade to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

  • Wear protective clothing: Cover your skin with clothing, hats, and sunglasses.

  • Check your skin regularly: Conduct regular self-exams to detect any changes in your skin, such as moles or lesions.

Unprotected sunbathing increases the risk of melanoma development and can cause sunburns and rashes.
