Thalam is a traditional ayurvedic therapy that has been practiced since ancient days. Thalam meaning 'pool' refers to the pooling of medicated herbal paste mixed with oils on the crown of the head. The crown is the prime centre for diseases related to head. Thalam has multifold benefits, which reduce the symptoms of pitta vikaar in the body.
Ingredients
The herbal powders used for Thalam
Cooling herbs: Such as amla (Indian gooseberry), and neem.
Moisturizing agents: Like coconut oil, almond oil, or sesame oil.
Other ingredients: Depending on specific hair concerns, ingredients like fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, or even cow's milk might be added.
The method
Positioning: The person is made to sit in a comfortable position. Using a certain medicinal oil, the head is gently massaged.
Preparing the paste: A herbal paste is made by mixing it with suitable medicated oils or kashaya.
Applying the paste: The paste is then applied to the scalp over the top of the bregma for a diameter of 2-3 cm.
Wait: Let the paste sit for 45–60 minutes.
Remove the paste: The paste is then removed and the area is wiped clean with a cloth.
Massage: The procedure is followed by a gentle head massage.
