Trayoupasthamba

Ayurveda

Trayoupasthambha or Trayostambh refers to the three pillars namely Ahara(diet), Nidra( slepp) and Bramacharya ( abstinence). The three form the basis of human life and hence are the basis of health and longevity of an individual, similar to the three biological humors ( Vata, Pitta and Kapha) and the three gunas ( Sattva, Raja and Tamas) that regulate the functioning of the body and mind. Ahara - Signifies a balanced diet which is the first and foremost in deciding the health. Food becomes a medicine to heal the body when taken in right qantity and quality at the right time. While food alone cannot cure all diseases, a proper balanced diet can indeed put a number of diseases at control. Nidra - 'A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow' goes a saying. The importance of keeping oneself calm and serene is very much essential for a deep undisturbed sleep. Sleeping late in the morning and staying awake late at night causes severe dosha imbalance resulting in lethargy, burning eyes, headache, body ache, irregular bowels and excess heat. A vata imbalance may also result in anxiety, fear, anger, shame and rage. Brahmacharya - The semen according to the scioence of ayurveda is the last Dhatu thats formed out of the bone and bone marrow.Protecting the semen protects bone health. Indulging in excess and regular sexual activity can excessively deplete the vital energy of the bones causing exhaustion.
